Three weeks of work to replace ageing gas mains in Oulton Broad has come to an end - however workmen will be back on site on Monday.

The second phase of work which started on Bridge Road in the spring got under way again on October 23, to replace old iron gas mains with more durable plastic pipes.

A partial road closure has been in place for southbound traffic from the roundabout on Normanston Drive to the junction with Harbour Drive, with drivers diverted over the Bascule Bridge in Lowestoft, causing some delays.

And although that work has now been completed, Cadent, formally known as National Grid, has said they will be returning to the site on Monday, November 13, for further work to be carried out over a 12-day period.

A Cadent spokesman said: 'We've been carrying out essential gas mains replacement work in Bridge Road to help ensure local residents keep on enjoying safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating.

'The current phase of work is being completed today.

'To alleviate traffic issues we agreed with the local authority to complete this section of work before beginning the final connection work for the project which will require us to dig an approximately 30m open cut excavation. This will necessitate a lane closure and a diversion will be in place.

'This work starts on Monday and is due to be completed by Friday, November 24.'

A partial road closure will once again be in place at the southbound lane from the Shell petrol garage.
