THE residency of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the Marina Theatre has been one of the most encouraging events to be available at our theatre.

THE residency of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the Marina Theatre has been one of the most encouraging events to be available at our theatre.

The orchestra has put Lowestoft on the map for classical music enthusiasts which has had the knock on effect of promoting the theatre for all its other events.

The RPO has also worked in with the local schools giving students an insight into top level performance and an assistance with their own musical performances which comes at a time when the government has recently put many millions of pounds into the promotion of music in schools.

So that not only do we have the Waveney Sinfonia being given an increased audience for their music but local schools orchestras are also given a boost for their concerts.

A date for your diary is May 6 when there will be two schools concerts at the Marina.

Back to the RPO; for those who already enjoy the classics the concert on May 2 would appear to be unmissable. Then for those who would like to sample some popular classics a very good introduction would be their concert on July 11 when nine very popular pieces are being performed followed by the Tchaikovsy Gala on September 19 when you will know most of the pieces, and to finish off the year with the Gala Christmas Celebration featuring our own Lowestoft Choral Society.

These national orchestras plan their programmes years ahead so it is very important that if we want to keep the RPO in Lowestoft for next year we have to book our seats now for this year; so let's show our support, let's get booking.
