A group of sixth form students have donated winter clothes, bedding and blankets to help a Lowestoft-based charitable organisation.

The students from Saint Felix School in Reydon have been discussing homelessness in their English lessons and asked their teacher what they could do to help.

The lesson was put on hold to plan what they could do to help homeless people in the local area and the group came up with gathering some donations for Access Community Trust.

And students went along to Coppice Court, a supported housing project for families run by Access, where they donated more than 30 big bags filled with clothes, bedding and blankets. Staff gave the students a tour of the project and talked about their area of work and the services they have on offer for homeless people in Suffolk.

Students spoke with residents about their stay in supported housing, and asked about the support on offer and how they can get involved volunteering.

Services manager Charlotte Jones said: 'I would like to say thank you for the kind donation which will be of great help to children and adults, both who might be homeless or living in temporary accommodation whilst they get the support to move on to their own forever home.

'Saint Felix have also donated shoe boxes of gifts for their clients by a group of Year 11 students who wanted to do this. Again this is so kind and all will be used.'
