I WOULD like to complement John Holmes on his fine article on the Bethel (May 16).As a member of a family with some 300 years of descendants living in Lowestoft and mainly working in the fishing industry, I would be extremely upset if this building was allowed to be sold off for some other use than a church.

I would strongly recommend that Waveney District Council do as their predecessors did when the Marina was put on the open market and bought for the people of Lowestoft.
I am sure we all thank those concerned for doing that.
I would wish the council to think long and hard and do the same here and buy the Bethel at any price.
