THE headteacher and governors of Kirkley Middle School in Lowestoft have written to Ofsted inspectors claiming their recent report was inaccurate.

The school in Southwell Road was visited at the beginning of December, but in the report, published today, inspectors say the school is in need of improvement and recommends special measures.

Andrea Colley, headteacher at the school said: “The staff and governors of the school completely reject Ofsted's findings. We believe Kirkley Middle School is an improving school not a failing school.

“Clear evidence has already been sent to Ofsted highlighting how inspectors failed to conduct the inspection according to Ofsted's own high standards. Evidence which highlights the many inaccuracies in the inspectors' findings has also been forwarded to Ofsted.”

The school will follow Ofsted's complaints procedure in a bid to have the report withdrawn and a more accurate version published, recognising the schools improving status.

Ofsted inspectors describe a school as special measures when they believe it is not providing a satisfactory education for its pupils. A school in special measures will have regular Ofsted inspections to monitor its improvement.
