Over 400 pupils and staff from schools in Carlton Colville and Lowestoft took part in a special sign2sing assembly.
The annual fundraising event is organised by the Deaf Health Charity SignHealth which works to give deaf children and adults a brighter and healthier future across the UK. Schools, groups and businesses are encouraged to learn a specially written song and simple signs to perform.
Grove Primary School and the Warren School took part in the event on February 10. In the early afternoon, 11 pupils from Grove Primary made their way to the Warren School where they were warmly welcomed by their respective buddies. They were first showed round the school before being invited to take part in a range of sign language games and activities.
Later on children and staff from both schools made their way to the sports hall where a Skype link was established. This enabled the group to welcome and greet each other using sign language as well as teaching each other songs that they had learnt as part of the sign2sing challenge.
The event culminated in a grand finale during which children and staff simultaneously signed and sang this year's sign2sing anthem 'We are better off together.'
The event was facilitated by David Baker, headteacher at Grove Primary and Jan Bird, headteacher at the Warren School, and jointly organised by Catherine Godet and Elizabeth Bloice.
The organisers said: 'This was an amazing opportunity for all students and staff from both schools to share a wonderful experience.
'It was an emotional and memorable moment for all involved and it was great to be breaking new grounds as the sign2sing team were not aware of any schools having ever done this before.'
Both schools thanked all the staff and pupils for their enthusiasm at the event, with special thanks to Emma, Tom and Kelly for their support.
Other schools in the area who signed up for the fundraiser included Elm Tree Primary School in Lowestoft, Kessingland Primary Academy, and Albert Pye Primary School in Beccles.
