IN an earlier letter I mentioned that the balustrade on the Victoria Esplanade was in an advanced state of disrepair and wondered if the remedial work was on the agenda.

What a joy it was to see that this work is now taking place. It could have started a little earlier in time for the start of the season but never the less the work is being done. Well done Waveney District Council.

A little further north along the promenade the raised flower beds have been removed, as have the “mosaic” stonework. That was an excellent thought. Well done again Waveney.

Looking to the beach (Children's Corner) is building up nicely, with help from the council in redeploying sand from the south beach. The lack of sand, I presume, was due to the recent tidal surge.

All in all I think our promenade is something to be proud of.

There are two other points I feel I should mention, the first being why do some people have the audacity to steal plants from the newly planted beds in Kensington Gardens?

The second point being when did the Claremont Pier change its name to “Clairmont” Pier? That's what it says on the directional signpost outside the East Point Pavilion.

Anybody else noticed it?
