PEOPLE living in the Lowestoft and Southwold area are being invited into a county-wide event to highlight community heroes.

A heroic member of the public, celebrated social workers and young carers are already in the running to become one of the official Stars of Suffolk this year.

Nominations are flooding in recognising the outstanding individuals among us who have dedicated their time to helping others.

The Journal's sister paper, The Evening Star, and Suffolk County Council have once again joined forces to honour the remarkable efforts of people in the county who go the extra mile.

Over the Christmas period 28 nominations were received from across Suffolk but it is not too late to have your say.

If you know a teacher, carer, neighbour or volunteer that has made a real difference to your local community nominate them for the Stars of Suffolk Awards 2010.

There are 13 categories as well as two special awards for the overall winner and the special recognition award.

The awards are sponsored by a number of local businesses and organisations and will be judged by an independent panel.

The winners will be revealed at a gala evening on Tuesday, March 30 at Endeavour House, Ipswich.

Nominations will be welcomed until the closing date of Friday, February 19. To nominate visit www.starsofsuffolk.org.uk.
