The Future Friendly Awards 2008 is a nationwide search for people who are championing sustainability in their local community while inspiring others to join in.

Environmental consultant and broadcaster Joanna Yarrow said: "Sustainability is no longer the fringe word it was five years ago. When the Future Friendly campaign launched, it demonstrated that if everyone adopted a more environmentally friendly attitude and lifestyle, together we could make a world of difference."

The award will provide five finalists with a chance to have a film made, showcasing their work, and the overall winner will receive a bursary worth £20,000 to continue their project.

Launched in 2007, Future Friendly is a partnership between leading experts the Energy Saving Trust, Waste Watch and Water Wise, which aims to inspire people to live more sustainable lives through saving energy and water and reducing waste.

Entries for the award close midnight on January 23. To find out more check out the website at www.futurefriendly.co.uk
