MOTORISTS and passengers who do not wear seatbelts will be targeted all this week in Waveney as a police enforcement campaign starts today.

The Suffolk-wide crackdown will run all week (Monday, February 16 to Sunday, February 22), as officers across the county carry out high visibility patrols and clamp down on anyone not wearing a seatbelt or not using the appropriate child restraints.

The campaign, which runs as part of a European seatbelt enforcement campaign, will mean that the chances of being caught when driving without a seatbelt will be greatly increased.

Given the statistics that show that failing to wear a seatbelt remains one of the main causation factors of fatal and serious injury collisions, any motorists caught without a seatbelt will be given an instant fixed penalty notice of £30 and could face a fine of up to £500.
