POLICE are appealing for information after an unoccupied house in Cotmer Road, Lowestoft, was set alight last night.

The small blaze caused smoke and fire damage inside the property at around 6pm yesterday evening.

Police are asking for anyone with any information about who was at the property yesterday or who started the fire to call PC 199 Fox at Lowestoft on 01986 835300.

The arson was the second such incident in the town within 14 hours, after someone poured a flammable liquid through the letterbox of a home in Notley Road at 4.30am yesterday morning.

Fortunately the occupants of that property were awoken by a fire alarm and the blaze was quickly extinguished, although substantial damage was caused to the door and carpet inside the property.

Police are investigating possible motives for the fire, which is being treated as arson with intent to endanger life, and are asking anyone who may have been in the area around 4.30am this morning or anyone with information about the person responsible to come forward.

If you can help please call DC 914 Brotherston at Lowestoft CID on 01986 835300.
