A driver crashed on the A12 early this morning as a car swerved off the road and into a ditch.

The car had to be rescued by emergency service crews in what was the second crash the road saw in just one night.

At approximately twenty minutes past midnight, fire crews were called after a car drove into a ditch in Kessingland.

Just eight hours earlier, a collision between a Mercedes and a Ford left the same road - but nearer Wangford, seven miles away - blocked after a collision.

Police and fire crews arrived to find one of the cars on its side, blocking the road.

A spokesman for Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said: "Our involvement was quite minimal. There was a car in a ditch on the A12 in Kessingland after a single vehicle collision. No persons were trapped.

"We helped to stabilise the car and stood down at 00.39am."

The ambulance service was approached for comment.
