A LOWESTOFT man who stole watches worth 85 from the town's Asda superstore has been given a suspended prison sentence.
John Charlton, 31, of London Road South, pleaded guilty on Tuesday at Lowestoft Magistrates Court to shoplifting at the store in Horn Hill on February 5.
He also admitted assaulting two staff members who stopped him by spitting at both of them.
The court heard Charlton had a long record of previous convictions but was now trying to re-build his life with his partner. He had also started work as a chicken catcher on local poultry farms and was earning about 45 a day.
Charlton was given a 24-week prison sentence, suspended for a year, and ordered to pay 100 to each of the Asda staff he assaulted.
