A group of artists will create a brand new piece of commissioned work during an innovative week-long residency at Carlton Marshes.

Danielle Ash, from Gunton, will be in residence at the nature reserve as a curator from May 6 to 10 alongside three multidisciplinary artists as part of her SiteStay 2019 project.

The idea follows last year's Suffolk Soundcamp, which saw ten sound artists descend on Gunton Warren and take part in a 24-hour live radio broadcast which streamed the sounds of nature on International Dawn Chorus Day.

This year, the outcome of the project will be a piece of commissioned artwork that will be exhibited at Lowestoft's forthcoming First Light Festival and ArtWaves Festival in Bridlington.

'Last year's project went really well and we got some great feedback,' said Ms Ash, who studies curating at Goldsmiths, University of London.

'This time round I wanted to follow-up on last year's project and we will be working in partnership with Suffolk Wildlife Trust and a couple of art festivals. The group will stay there for a week in May and create some brand new art.

'The main reason why I wanted to base this at Carlton Marshes is because, by 2020, the reserve is going to have doubled in size. I grew up in this area and this seems a really good opportunity to show how we can use our nature reserves differently.

Both festivals have agreed to cover the cost of exhibition spaces, but the artists must now raise £250 by Monday, April 8, to fund residency materials and travel expenses.
