Colleagues at Yorkshire Building Society in Lowestoft have shown people how their small change can add up to make a big difference to charities in their community.

The branch, on London Road North, held an awareness day on Friday, September 14, to highlight the good work carried out by charities who have received donations from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation.

Lowestoft Elderly Peoples Welfare Committee, Rainbow Day Nursery and Pakefield Coastwatch are among more than 20 charities in Lowestoft that have had donations totalling more than £6,500 since the Charitable Foundation was established a decade ago.

The Charitable Foundation is funded through the Small Change Big Difference® scheme where members donate the pennies from the interest on their accounts once a year to help smaller charities around the UK.

Jacqui Collins, manager of the Lowestoft branch of Yorkshire Building Society, said: 'At Yorkshire Building Society, we're committed to supporting charities which have a really positive impact on our community.

'The Charitable Foundation is funded by our members and we're proud that every penny they donate goes directly to the charities which are recommended for donations. Our members' small change has already made a big difference here in Lowestoft but we know there are always charities out there which need support.

'If you know a charity that could benefit or want to find out more information about how to join the Small Change Big Difference scheme just come into our branch and speak to any member of staff.'
