Waveney has awoken to snowy scenes and freezing temperatures, with police reminding drivers to be wary of testing conditions.

A yellow weather warning had previously been issued by the Met Office for parts of the country, including Norfolk and Suffolk.

But the arrival of the white stuff was more of a dusting than a deluge, with just a few of centimetres settling.

All primary and high schools in Lowestoft, Beccles, Bungay and across the rest of the region are open as usual.

However, Greater Anglia has warned passengers travelling on its services to be cautious as some station platforms and car parks may be icy.

Lowestoft Town FC Academy has meanwhile called off today's scheduled match against Barking.

Forecasters have warned that temperatures are likely to plummet once again tonight - and there could be more snow and ice later in the week.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for snow and ice across the region, which begins from 3pm tomorrow (Thursday, January 31) and continues until 12pm on Friday, February 1.

It added there would be a chance a of travel delays and disruption to rail and air travel.

Dan Holley, of forecaster Weatherquest, tweeted that attention later on Thursday would turn to a band of rain, sleet and snow spreading gradually northwards.
