Women's Link - Members enjoyed the talk given last Thursday by Chris Brooks on Peto's Lowestoft. It seems that Lowestoft owes more to Morton Peto than to any other man. He brought the town its prosperity, building the harbour and connecting it to the rest of the country by rail so that fresh fish from Lowestoft boats could reach London or Manchester on the same day. Not content with this he developed the south part of the town into a fashionable holiday resort with seafront terraces, the esplanade and some fine terraces of housing. He was a classic Victorian entrepreneur and resident of Somerleyton and the group were interested to learn more about his work and about the elegance of old Lowestoft. The next meeting takes place on Thursday, November 12 at 7.30pm in the village hall when Deborah Preston will be giving a talk entitled 'Britain's top Mrs Mop!'

Church services - On Sunday a service of matins will be held at 9.30am in St Margaret's Church, Herringfleet and a harvest festival service will be held at 11am in St Mary's Church, Somerleyton.
