A TASTY treat was bestowed on children from Somerleyton last Friday as they continued an annual tradition dating back to the 19th century.
Pupils from Somerleyton Primary school enjoyed Penny and Bun Day at Somerleyton Hall, with the Honourable Hugh Crossley presenting each of them with a 50p piece and an iced bun.
The tradition, which is thought to date back more than 150 years, began in Victorian times when Sir Morton Peto gave buns and a brand new penny to children in the village. Since then children have visited the hall around Valentine's Day every year.
To show their appreciation, the pupils treated their host with a performance including handbells and a Chinese dragon.
