THE Southwold and Reydon Corps of Drums are a popular attraction at many events in the area and now they have a new Band Room in Southwold's Stella Peskett Hall.

Sole Bay Lions helped fund the fitting out of the new room and Lions president Mike Powell-Evans visited the corps recently to see the new facilities.

The vision of those who started the corps of drums was to enable youngsters to take part in a musical activity whilst learning self-discipline and team responsibility and developing a strong sense self-esteem, and this still applies today.

Since its inception over 25 years ago the Band has provided meaningful activity for young people and adults from Southwold and the surrounding areas. The Corps of Drums has a busy schedule from April to December and at the recent Christmas lights switch-on in Southwold guests would have seen and heard them bringing Santa into town.

They also parade at the lions fete in May, the Grand Henham Steam Rally in September, Lowestoft and Beccles Carnivals and many other events.

The Southwold Sole Bay Lions have supported the Corps of Drums over the years and were pleased to help them move into their room in the new building.

The corps meet here twice a week to practice, on Wednesday evening and Sunday mornings. Children aged seven upwards are always welcome and the corps actively welcomes and supports people with physical and/or learning disabilities.

'The next target is to raise sufficient funds - about 10,000 - to replace instruments and accessories and the lions have given the first donation,' a Lions spokesman said.
