Southwold: Father's plea over son's death

THE father of a teenager who went missing after a night out in Southwold almost a year ago has appealed for information to piece together his son's final movements.

Daniel Hannant, 19, went missing after a night with friends at the British Legion Club in Blackmill Road, Southwold, on Saturday, February 28, last year and was found dead a few days later.

Now as the first anniversary of his death approaches, his parents have said they still have unanswered questions about his final hours and are hoping that anyone with any information will come forward.

His father Michael Hannant said: 'We hope that as it will be a year on Saturday that Daniel was last seen, it might trigger memories among other people who might have been out that night.

'He left the British Legion Club at about 11.30pm and although there have been some witnesses who have said they saw him around Station Road, that doesn't add up with his body later being found in Buss Creek near the Blyth Road allotments. That would have been off his usual route home.'

He added: 'We just want to try to piece together the last few bits of information. This has been an awful year for us all, but I still think the worst part is just not knowing what went on that night. Even if someone has information which doesn't seem important, it might be the detail we need to help us find out what happened so we can move forward.'

Daniel, who lived with his parents and two brothers in Reydon, was a former pupil at Sir John Leman High School, in Beccles, and had been working as a shop assistant at the Somerfield supermarket in Southwold.

A spokesman for Suffolk police said: 'We know how important it is to Daniel's parents to find out how he died. With an inquest due to be held in a couple of months' time, we're keen to have as clear a picture as possible of what happened that night.'
