At the last indoor meeting of the season the talk had the intriguing title 'From nun to mum to UNICEF'. Clare Richards from Norwich explained that she was so impressed by the nuns who taught at her Catholic school in North London that she chose to join a teaching order, with the ultimate aim of looking after deprived children in homes in the north of England. However, these were closed following a policy change at the Vatican. She then sought other work, but each time was thwarted, so eventually decided to return to the outside world. She married a former priest, adopted boy and girl twins who had been abandoned in Colombia, and settled in Norwich to teach RE. She now uses all her spare time to work for UNICEF as a volunteer. After this stimulating talk, 100 was collected for UNICEF's work for children worldwide. A few weeks earlier, the In-Betweens turned out in force for their annual lunch at High Lodge, Hinton, and the April walk, based at Mutford, was led by David and Angela Ladd. Twenty-five walked on a wonderfully sunny morning. The party finished up at Carlton Crown, where some non-walking members joined them for lunch.
