Residents and visitors to Southwold are being advised of road closures and parking restrictions to accommodate the OVO Energy Women's Tour taking place in June.

On Wednesday, June 13 some of the world's best cyclists will arrive in east Suffolk for the opening stage of the OVO Energy Women's Tour.

The 'Grand Depart' of the race gets underway in Framlingham with stage one following a 129km route through Suffolk – heading to Woodbridge, Ipswich and Stowmarket, before finishing in North Parade in Southwold.

In order to accommodate spectators, finish area apparatus and convoy vehicles, it is necessary to have temporary road closures and suspend on street parking.

For Southwold effective between midnight and 6pm on 13 June, the following roads will be closed and on-street parking suspended: North Parade; Marlborough Road (from Pier Avenue to junction of North Parade); Dunwich Road and Field Stile Road (from North Parade to Marlborough Road).

Between 1pm and 3pm, Pier Avenue will also be closed.

In addition, on-street parking will also be suspended from midnight until noon on the following roads:

A1095 Halesworth Road (from the junction with Lakeside Park Drive to Pier Avenue); Pier Avenue; North Parade; Field Stile Road; Marlborough Road; North Road and Dunwich Road.

Additional parking will be available at Millennium Green Car Park, with the Pier car park open in the morning.

From the afternoon of Tuesday, June 12 no waiting cones and signing will be positioned in areas where these on street parking restrictions apply.

Residents are asked to ensure that any vehicles are removed from the affected roads before the restrictions apply. Any vehicle left parked on any of these roads may be removed to an alternative location away from the route.

Advanced warning signs will be put into place along the route ahead of the event and residents living in affected streets will shortly receive a letter detailing how they could be affected.

Residents are advised to check the stage one route at www.womenstour.co.uk and plan travel accordingly.
