A SEASIDE toilet block which has been closed since the end of last summer reopened in Southwold yesterday.

Waveney District Council closed the toilets at Kilcock Cliff, in the middle of the promenade, at the end of last summer's holiday season.

After complaints from some of the popular resort's visitors, Southwold Town Council has been trying ever since to come up with a way to get them open again.

And on Wednesday, the toilet block was open for use after the town and district councils came to an agreement which will see the facility open for the next four months.

At the end of this summer, the town council will look at the cost of reopening the block on a more permanent basis for coming summers.

Town mayor Sue Doy said: “We realised that we needed to do something and couldn't keep on getting all these awful letters sent to us.

“So we've found someone who is happy to clean the toilets for us. We're taking them back until the end of October. The town council is running them and paying for the maintenance.”
