A man died after he became trapped under a lorry and a pensioner was taken to hospital after being hit by a car in Great Yarmouth yesterday (Tuesday, February 14).

The crash involving a man and a lorry was the first of three accidents which happened in the town during the afternoon.

Haven Bridge was closed after emergency services attended after reports of a man being in collision with a lorry in Southtown Road at 12.50pm.

The East of England Ambulance Service was called to Matalan Retail Park and a rapid response car and an ambulance attended the scene but paramedics were unable to save him.

The man is believed to be from the Great Yarmouth area.

Fire crews from Great Yarmouth and Gorleston helped to make the scene safe and assisted the ambulance service.

The bridge reopened at 4.45pm.

Drivers were faced with long delays after a four vehicles crashed on Breydon Bridge when four vehicles including a van and a Peugeot 306 were in collision at around 2.30pm.

A spokesman for Norfolk Constabulary said nobody was injured or trapped but one of the cars was blocking the road.

Fire crews from Great Yarmouth, Gorleston, Carrow and Stalham attended to make the scene safe. The bridge reopened at 3.14pm.

Emergency services were called to Hall Quay, near the town hall, at 5.05pm after a 70-year-old man stepped out in front of a car. He was taken to the James Paget hospital with non life threatening injuries.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said that the man was conscious and breathing.
