A LOWESTOFT theatre production will support a global movement to end violence against women and girls.

The Vagina Monologues is being performed at the Seagull Theatre, Pakefield this week-end in aid of V-Day, which helps raise money for anti-violence organisations.

A spokeswoman from Waveney Women's Aid said she was delighted to hear that V-Day was being supported by the performances, which began last night and continue tonight and tomorrow. Some of the proceeds from the shows will go to the charity, which helps abused women and their families.

As well as running a women's refuge, Waveney Women's Aid offers a 24-hour domestic violence helpline so someone is always available to offer support.

“Calls will always be answered by a woman and it can be anonymous. We can't give specific legal and benefits advice but we can give help and support and inform women of other agencies they may need to approach,” said the spokeswoman.

“Women suffering domestic violence can call the 24-hour helpline on 0800 58 77 890.

“The purpose of the refuge is to give safe, supported temporary accommodation for women and children until they can be found permanent accommodation.”

Future events at the Seagull include an acoustic charity night on Sunday in aid of Blossom Animal Rescue Centre, Ditchingham.

To book tickets telephone the box office on 01502 589726.
