The interior of St Margaret's is currently marred by the presence of scaffolding in the chancel and the lady chapel. Inspections have confirmed the presence of death watch beetle in the roof timbers and permission must now be obtained from the Bat Conservation Trust in order to apply treatment to the woodwork. Bats are protected by law and so, although there are no bats in St Margaret's, the legal requirements must be followed and clearance is awaited. The church should be restored to order by this year's Patronal Festival Weekend, from Saturday to Monday, July 18 to 20, when a flower and costume display will celebrate 700 years of service since the first recorded incumbent. There will also be a mediaeval style fair complete with hog roast on July 18 with proceeds in aid of the church lighting project. As part of the fair the church wishes to involve the community as widely as possible and organisations and individuals are invited to rent a site for a stall in the grounds or in a marquee, either to promote their activities or sell their products or wares. All enquiries should be made to the organisers on 01502 568296. Services on Sunday will begin with holy communion at 8am. Sung eucharist will take place at 10am and evensong at 6.30pm.
