The meeting was opened on Monday by June Chipperfield, who welcomed 40 members, including two guests and one new member to the group. She introduced the speaker, Margaret Binks who gave a talk and demonstration on the art of card making. Margaret told members that her interest in card making began when she received a sampler made by a young girl of 13, for her silver wedding anniversary. Until then she had never been artistic, but decided to have a go at craft work, picking up ideas from TV. She then got 'hooked,' and being tired of having to go to Great Yarmouth or Norwich for materials, she decided in May 2006, with her husband's help, to open up a shop in town, where she not only sells materials, but has craft workshops and a craft club. She went on to show members a fairly simple card to make, with a few embellishments on a piece of card, which was cheap and easy to make. She then moved on to a card using foam pads to lift the picture being made away from the card. She did advise members to always use the best quality materials where possible. The third card demonstrated, used the technique of 'decoupage' building up a picture with several layers of materials, and adding small adornments around the edge. She always leaves her personal stamp on the cards she makes. Although the demonstration was of card making, she told the ladies that she also makes jewellery. After questions from the group, she was warmly thanked by Pam Browne. The next meeting will be keep fit with Pauline, on Monday, April 20 at 7.30pm.
