Residents of a street in Lowestoft enjoyed a street party aimed to bring the community closer together.

Tedder Road residents enjoyed a street party on Sunday, April 29 which was organised by a group of volunteers from the street.

Despite the rain, around 65 people attended the party along with Waveney District Council councillors Mary Rudd and Alison Cackett, and representatives from Great Yarmouth and Waveney Mind and Lowestoft Ogogo were also present to raise awareness of their services.

The councillors judged competitions and presented prizes which had been donated by the residents themselves.

A letter was read out by Tedder Road resident Brian Clarke's step-daughter Susan Shephard, to remember Mr Clarke who died shortly before the party and had donated many of the prizes.

A raffle was also held which raised £100 which will be donated to a local cancer charity in memory of Mr Clarke.

Ms Rudd said: 'Street parties are a great way to get to know your neighbours, improve community spirit and have fun right on your doorstep.

'The Tedder Road party was a great success and I hope it inspires others across Waveney to organise their own parties.'
