Despite a heavy deluge of rain throughout the day, spirits were not dampened at the first family fun day held at The Hollies Camping and Leisure Resort in Kessingland.

With over 600 people making the most of the free camping weekend, the event gave visitors the chance to find out more about the site, raise money for the Break charity and take part in a range of fun activities.

A Top Gear-themed mobility scooter race, a range of stalls and refreshment outlets and the chance to look round one of the new lodges at the site made for an exciting day for visitors - many of whom braved the weather to raise important funds.

The Lowestoft Dog Agility display team also performed in the afternoon and one of the GoGo Dragons - named ‘Gorgeous George’, which had been sponsored by the park - was placed outside the entrance to raise the profile of the Break charity.

James Bouldin has been the general manager at The Hollies for four months.

“We came up with the idea of putting on a free weekender to make some extra money for Break and the fun day was an extension onto that”, he said at Saturday’s event.

“A highlight for me was the mobility scooter racing. Kessingland is well known for having a lot of mobility scooters, so we thought we would tag onto that theme and have our own little time trial.

“We were aiming to raise a lot of money and for people to see that we are a new park and to come and see what we can offer and use our facilities.”

Steve Johnson, director of Beeston Group Holiday Parks, said: “This completely free weekend is great to raise the profile of the business and raise some money for a great charity.

“It is a fantastic idea.”
