PEOPLE living in Worlingham have repeatedly appealed for safety improvements on the road where Friday's horrific crash happened but to no avail, it was claimed today.

Michael Culyer, chairman of Worlingham Parish Council, said that more safety measures were needed on Lowestoft Road which is used by children daily.

He said: 'After the terrible accident that happened on Friday in Worlingham, the parish council would like to say on behalf of ourselves and the whole of the village, that our thoughts are with the family of the children concerned and we wish them all a speedy recovery.

'We have regularly requested, as has the whole village in the recent parish plan, to have traffic calming along the Lowestoft Road to help to avoid accidents.

'Whether these measures would have stopped Friday's event occurring, we cannot comment, until the police have finished their investigations.

'However, it is generally recognised by everyone who either lives along, or uses the Lowestoft Road, that vehicle activated signs are needed at both ends of the village to highlight the 30 mph speed limit, together with more prominent signs all the way along the road reminding drivers that it is 30mph.

'The Lowestoft Road is used by children daily going to the local schools and at least one pedestrian crossing should be in place at some point along the road. We have continually asked Suffolk County Council to implement these but to no avail.'
