A HEATWAVE could be on the way next week as temperatures across the county continue to soar.

This weekend is expected to bring highs of 23 Celsius (74 Fahrenheit) and next week will be even hotter.

The Met Office is triggering the Heatwave Plan alert level two, which means there is a 60 per cent risk that high temperatures will be reached in one or more regions in the UK on at least two consecutive days.

Temperatures in Suffolk could reach 25C (77F) during the days early next week and the nights will also remain warm and humid.

A spokeswoman for Weatherquest said: “There is going to be some cloud across East Anglia at the weekend and a few isolated showers. The temperatures will be warm, reaching 23C/24C (74F).

“It will be fairly humid over the next few days. The showers will be fewer and farther between. Tomorrow will be warm and next week will be mostly dry.”

Those travelling to London should wear light clothing and keep hydrated as daytime highs could reach 32C (89F).

The DoH has issued important advice about what precautions to take during a heatwave as it claims the heat is especially dangerous for the very young, older people or those with serious illnesses.

It suggests that windows should be kept shaded and closed when the temperature is hotter outside than inside. People with respiratory problems should also stay inside during the hottest part of the day.

A Department of Health spokesman said: “Keeping the home as cool as possible during hot weather and remembering the needs of friends, relatives and neighbours who could be at risk is essential. The elderly and those who are ill, are particularly vulnerable during hot weather and the most oppressive conditions occur in our towns and cities.”
