CHOOSE Suffolk is to stage a series of Tourism Roadshow events to help visitor attractions, hospitality providers and other tourism-related businesses boost their revenues.
The economic development partnership is holding the events in partnership with Lloyds TSB at seven venues across the county.
The roadshows, themed “Planning for Growth”, aim to give delegates an opportunity to learn about major issues facing the sector and how they can best use the latest industry research, communications and marketing techniques, as well as providing an opportunity for networking.
Lloyds TSB, which is one of the main sponsors of the London 2012 Olympics, has identified tourism as one of the UK’s key growth areas.
Steve Elsom, area director of Lloyds TSB Commercial for East Anglia, said: “Tourism is a key industry in Suffolk. Not only does it provide employment opportunities at many levels, it attracts inward investment into the county, generating valuable income.”
Choose Suffolk tourism manager Alex Paul said: “Each of the events will include presentations from leading professionals to ensure that delegates gain a good insight into issues and developments that will allow them to maximise potential revenue for their business.”
Celia Hodson, chief executive of Choose Suffolk, added: “Tourism in Suffolk is growing and one of the county’s key economic drivers and is now worth £1.75billion to the county’s economy, an increase of 7.4% on last year.
“We want to ensure that the sector continues demonstrating such levels of growth and these workshops give the county’s businesses the knowledge and information they need to stay competitive within a fast-moving industry.”
Venues and dates for the roadshow events include: Ufford Park, near Woodbridge, on Tuesday, November 16; Palace House, Newmarket, on Thursday, December 9; the Angel Hotel, Bury St Edmunds, on Wednesday, January 12; Jimmy’s Farm, at Wherstead, near Ipswich, on Wednesday, January 26; Creeting House, Creeting St Mary, near Stowmarket, on Thursday, February 10; the Swan, Lavenham, on Wednesday, March 23; and The Cut Community Arts Centre, Halesworth, on a date to be confirmed.
