ESTA has, for several months, also been pressing for this facility and will continue to do so. It is yet another example of bus passengers being denied basic protection from the elements, a repeat of last winter's Gordon Road situation which, despite regular approaches to the county council we were, regrettably, unable to make progress.

Although First Eastern Counties appear to be content to argue that the provision of bus shelters is not their responsibility, it certainly is their customers who are suffering, so it would be gratifying if they would confirm that they are also putting pressure on Tesco and the local authority to either provide a shelter on Leisure Way or to agree layout modifications with the store owner to enable their buses to use the shelter provided as part of the store's extension.

It seems remarkable that Anglian Coaches' vehicles, which appear to be of similar length to those operated by First, are able to set down and pick up passengers at the new shelter whilst First claim it is unsafe to do so. On the face of it, it would appear to be practicable to make minor alterations to the car parking bays without seriously affecting the store owner's business, thus allowing all buses to use the new shelter to the benefit of all operators' passengers.
