Support for 39 new homes

I SUPPORT plans for 39 affordable homes to be built on land adjacent to Woods Loke.

Lowestoft is an area of high social deprivation with equally high poverty per electoral ward.

I would suggest that the families of Coppice Court that are currently temporarily accommodated, whilst awaiting re-housing, would also be supportive of this application.

Woods Loke was bisected by a major arterial route several years ago. The land in question for re-development is “brown site” and as such meets with current government drives for urban development.

As a professional that has worked in both community nursing and social work in Lowestoft I understand the impact of homelessness and temporary accommodation on clients - it is devastating.

As a child in the sixties I had a wonderful home in a local authority house in Kessingland. I dare say at the time these houses were built for privileged homeowners, as opposed to the drive for council houses.

As for the bridleway, I have used this on horseback, but was under no delusions that I was anywhere but in a town.

As for the children going to Woods Loke School, they currently negotiate a major road which has an excellent pedestrian crossing; this is a null and void argument - in any urban area there are roads to negotiate.

Site traffic safety will be under the developer's health and safety management, and of course responsible parenting would ensure that children's safety was paramount.

I would like to believe that the Government drive for affordable housing, coupled with brown site re-development, is not subdued by local private homeowners' elitist attitude, that is in turn displaying their apparent lack of social conscience.
