Talks between railway operator National Express and train unions to stop proposed strikes are set to continue.

Talks between railway operator National Express and train unions to stop proposed strikes were set to continue today.

Over the past two weeks the National Rail, Martime and Transport Workers Union and Aslef have held two-days strikes in a row over pay and working conditions.

Members of the Transport Salaried Staffs' Association are set to join Aslef and the RMT in strikes due to take place this week on Thursday and Friday .

The unions met with mediation agency, ACAS and National Express yesterday to try and resolve the issues and avoid further strikes.

A spokesman from Aslef said: 'We have had a full day of talks with ACAS and we will be continuing those tomorrow. 'That is all I can say at this point.'

A spokesman from National Express added: 'We have had a full day of talks and all parties have agreed those are set to continue.'
