A charitable fund set up in memory of a popular Lowestoft teenager will continue to help others after surpassing a major milestone.
Community projects, worthy causes, organisations and numerous deserving people across Waveney have all been supported by the Taylor High Memorial Fund.
Approaching seven years since the fund was set up by Taylor’s parents, Elaine and Gary and his brother Curtis High, after the 19-year-old’s death in a car crash in west Norfolk in March 2011, it is continuing to “pass on Taylor’s smile” with every donation that they make.
And now having made 109 donations to deserving beneficiaries over the years, the fund has reached another milestone – having raised more than £100,000.
It comes after more than £350 was raised during a charity cycle challenge, which was presented to Mrs High recently.
Mrs High said: “The fund was set up as initially we asked for donations instead of flowers so we could purchase a memorial bench to be installed in Nicholas Everitt Park in Oulton Broad, costing £1,000. Such was the response that money flooded in and far exceeded the amount. We decided to use all the money coming into the fund to help the local community – so we set up charity in Taylor’s memory, raising funds to remember him.”
Much loved and never forgotten, Mrs High said: “People wanted to remember Taylor. He was so popular with all his friends, football friends, work colleagues and family. It is lovely for us to remember him and for us it’s helping others.
“Taylor would help anyone if he could. This gives a bit of cheer to others by helping them and as it brings a smile back to them it is our way of seeing Taylor’s smile being passed on.”
Back at the memorial bench at Nicholas Everitt Park in Oulton Broad this week, Mrs High added: “Seven was Taylor’s favourite number, so to have reached the £100,000 milestone within seven years is absolutely phenomenal.
“We will keep going, everyone in the community is behind us and still supporting us.”
The fund supports deserving causes and people in need in the Lowestoft community and 10-mile surrounding area.
