TEN people have been arrested for drugs offences during a week-long police operation in the Lowestoft area.The countywide crackdown to tackle the supply of controlled drugs in Suffolk took place all last week, with more than �700,000 worth of drugs seized and 60 people arrested during the blitz.

The countywide crackdown to tackle the supply of controlled drugs in Suffolk took place all last week, with more than �700,000 worth of drugs seized and 60 people arrested during the blitz.

Operation Dace saw the deployment of specialist teams, drugs dogs, the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) Intercept Team, a specialist machine called the Ion Track - which has been used frequently in Lowestoft before - and metal detecting knife arches all in action at a number of locations.

During the week, 80 offences were recorded and across Lowestoft the following arrests were made.

Three people were arrested for possession of cannabis with intent to supply. A 48-year-old man is on bail until January 8 after police raided an address in Jasmine Green. A vehicle was searched and a bag of what is believed to be herbal cannabis was recovered. In a separate raid, officers executed a warrant at an address in Henham Road. A 26-year-old man and a 51-year-old man are on bail until February 10 after a quantity of cannabis leaf was discovered at the property and in a vehicle.

Two people were arrested for possession of heroin. A 33-year-old woman is on bail until January 30 after police raided an address in Homefield Avenue. Substances believed to be heroin and crack cocaine were recovered.

32-year-old Tony Rivers, of no fixed abode, was charged with possession of heroin after being found in possession at St Margarets Plain last Tuesday. After being remanded to appear at Lowestoft Magistrates court last week, he pleaded guilty and was fined �140.

Two people were arrested for possession of cocaine. A 36-year-old man was cautioned after being found in possession of a small wrap of cocaine, as he was stopped during passive drugs dog searches in Oulton Broad. A 40-year-old man was also cautioned for the same offence after also being stopped in Saltwater Way.

A Lowestoft woman was also arrested on suspicion of possession of cocaine with intent to supply after a drug search by police. The 36-year-old woman was found with what is believed to be crack cocaine while driving along the A146. She has been bailed to return to Lowestoft police station on January 28.

Detective Chief Inspector Bernie Morgan said: 'Suffolk Constabulary is dedicated to targeting drug dealing, drug misuse and associated crime. This operation sought to tackle two of our main priorities - tackling the Class A drugs markets and also to create a safer night time economy for all. It has been a real success and I believe it has had a positive impact.

'My message is clear: we will continue to disrupt drug use and dealing in Suffolk and prosecutions will be robustly pursued,' he added.
