Three people have been taken to hospital after a car veered off a road and crashed into a town centre park bench.

Emergency services were called at around 12.45pm on Tuesday following reports of collision on the A47 Station Square in Lowestoft.

Police, several ambulance vehicles and an East Anglian Air Ambulance were sent to the scene.

Three fire crews - two from Lowestoft South and one from North Lowestoft - were also called.

On arrival they discovered a Vauxhall Agila - driven by a woman in her 70s - collided with several bollards, had mounted the pavement and crashed into a bench situated a few metres from the road.

Officers subsequently closed the road in both directions, preventing motorists on the Bascule Bridge, Denmark Road and Bevan Street East from accessing Station Square.

Two pedestrians were injured as a result of the crash and received treatment at the roadside along with the driver. They were all taken to hospital via ambulance, but none of the injuries are life-threatening.
