Three Peaks Challenge achievement for Lowestoft men

A Lowestoft trio have conquered the Three Peaks Challenge, raising money for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) along the way.
Alex Smith and Alex Scupham, both 24, and Chris Burt, 25, scaled Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon, the three highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales respectively.
Having undertaken the gruelling challenge from July 14 to 15, the friends completed the hike in just under 26 hours, including 12 hours driving time.
“After Scafell, we realised we were going to be happy to simply complete the three peaks, despite aiming for 24 hours,” said Mr Smith.
“It’s more of a mental thing than physical because you’re constantly thinking about how much further you have to go.
“We always wanted to raise money for a local charity and EACH is a great cause.”
The group’s effort raised £910 for EACH and they are already looking ahead to their next sub-24 hour attempt.
