Suffolk Police and Crime Commissioner Tim Passmore has been re-selected to stand as Conservative candidate for the post again in next year's elections.

He was unanimously adopted at a meeting of party members from across the county in Ipswich.

During his address to the meeting Mr Passmore reminded the audience that the primary role of the commissioner was to ensure the delivery of an efficient and effective police force in Suffolk.

Other crucial matters included setting the Council Tax precept for policing, hiring the Chief Constable and implementing the county's Police and Crime Plan.

The election will take place on May 5 next year – the second for the position after the first were held in November 2012. Mr Passmore said the most important issue he had taken during the last three years was the retention of the police control room in Suffolk.

'I am delighted with the result and am looking forward to next year's election,' he said.

'Many of the comments made from the floor last night were so kind and generous and I do want to thank everybody who attended and gave me their support.

'The unanimous result was very humbling and I will do my level best to continue to put Suffolk's interests first. We are lucky to have a wonderful police force employing some marvellous people and if elected, we can all continue to keep Suffolk as one of the safest counties in the country.'
