THE first business awards being promoted by the Lowestoft and Chamber of Commerce gives companies and organisations in the area an ideal opportunity to promote their achievements, a leading figure said this week.

Linda Thornton, the chamber's chief officer, said nominations were being received but she would welcome more inquiries and entries.

“The business awards represent a tremendous opportunity for companies and organisations of all sizes to promote themselves.

“We have a lot of success stories in the Lowestoft and Waveney area and this ceremony is the perfect chance to highlight these,” she said.

The ceremony is being held at the Wherry Hotel, Oulton Broad, on November 20, when television and radio personality Helen McDermott will be the compere.

There are 18 separate categories covering all aspects of business life and sponsors include The Journal, Waveney MP Bob Blizzard and 1st East regeneration company.

The Diversity in Business Awards is being sponsored by jobcentreplus.

Tina Ellis, district manager for Cambridgeshire and Suffolk jobcentreplus, said: “We are dedicated to providing a high standard of service to all employers. Sponsoring this award is a great opportunity to promote the efforts of businesses that can show flexibility in meeting the changing needs of a diverse workforce.”

Details of all categories and an application form for the business awards is available at the chamber's website www.waveneychamber.co.uk and click on Business Awards 2008 section.
