“We have to rise to the challenge” - that is the response from community leaders after a town centre was dealt the major blow of losing two big stores.

After news of the closure of BHS in Lowestoft, it has now been confirmed that Argos will shut its London Road North store on July 15.

Darren Newman, manager of Lowestoft Vision business improvement district, stressed the closures were due to national issues and “not a reflection on Lowestoft”.

But it is now hoped that a big name like Primark will help to fill the void, with the BID creating a prospectus to try and attract new businesses to the town.

“It is a big challenge when stores of this nature close - but we have to rise to the challenge,” said Lowestoft Vision chairman Danny Steel.
