Traffic problems?
I WAS interested to read Leon Harvey's letter (October 9) concerning road safety issues at the Bloodmoor Road/Stradbroke Road roundabout and the lack of response from Suffolk County Council.
I WAS interested to read Leon Harvey's letter (October 9) concerning road safety issues at the Bloodmoor Road/Stradbroke Road roundabout and the lack of response from Suffolk County Council.
I have grave concerns about the dangers here and have constantly tried to get something done about it, but so far to no avail.
Drivers and pedestrians think these areas are bad now, but the county council is proposing to increase numbers of pupils and staff at Pakefield Primary School and in addition proposing a new high school on the Pakefield Middle School site.
There will be over 1,320 pupils on this site together with all the extra staff required for this. This will only mean more cars on the roads, more children using the crossings at the two roundabouts, which in turn means more and more traffic congestion, delays and definitely more accidents.
We also have the issue of the bus stops on Bloodmoor Hill.
Every time they are used traffic comes to a standstill and the congestion backs up. This in turn affects Stradbroke Road and roads leading off the Lansdowne Road estate with traffic at a standstill and this then restricts the exit/entrance to the new fire station.

It is also being proposed that children from Kessingland will walk or cycle to school along the busy and dangerous A12 and school buses will not be supplied. The pavements are not suitable for this and the cycle lanes that do exist are dangerous for adults, let alone young children.
Would responsible parents wish their children to do this on dark and wet mornings or when school or school clubs finish in late afternoon?
We will also soon have the traffic issues associated with the south Lowestoft crematorium and traffic generated when Pontin's is finally enlarged.
