A GROUP of illegal travellers has moved on to a seafront caravan park in Lowestoft.

The 25 travellers moved on to the North Denes earlier this week, removing two metal bollards to get on to the site.

A spokesman for Waveney District Council said that officers from the council approached the group as soon as they arrived on Sunday and told them they were on the site illegally.

She added: “Traveller protocol requires us to identify any health and social needs before we can take any other action available to us and Waveney's officers are in contact with the traveller liaison officer at Suffolk County Council. It is also protocol to work with the police should any public order issues occur.

“The council has received complaints and is working with the travellers to remedy any issues. They have been provided with black sacks and arrangements have been made to collect their rubbish and remove any fly-tipped items.

“We are working closely with other authorities, such as the police, and continue to monitor the situation.”
