TWO people were arrested and more than 30 vehicles stop-checked in Lowestoft as part of a crackdown on unroadworthy vans and lorries.The operation involving Suffolk police, and officers from VOSA (the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency), the Environment Agency and HM Revenue and Customs was concentrated on the Belvedere Road car park.
TWO people were arrested and more than 30 vehicles stop-checked in Lowestoft as part of a crackdown on unroadworthy vans and lorries.
The operation involving Suffolk police, and officers from VOSA (the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency), the Environment Agency and HM Revenue and Customs was concentrated on the Belvedere Road car park.
Thirty-nine vehicles - vans and lorries - were escorted to the site for checks.
Two people were arrested - one for assault and one for drink driving - three people reported for summons, and 14 fixed penalty notices were issued.
One vehicle was seized as the driver had no licence and no insurance and 11 immediate prohibitions were issued for 18 defects or offences.
Eleven further delayed prohibitions were given for 19 offences and 55 advisory notices were given for further defects. Two Hazmat Prohibitions were also issued.
Only eight of the vehicles stopped left clear of any defects.
Officers from Suffolk police headquarters, Bury St Edmunds and Halesworth roads policing units were involved in the operation which ran from 7.30am to 2pm on Wednesday, 26 May, along the with partner agencies who carried out a variety of checks on the vehicles including fuel testing.
