Unique marriage proposals- how Lowestoft proved to be full of romantics

After a man proposed to his girlfriend by flying a banner over the place they visited for their first date recently, it is not the first time that a groom has popped the question in unusual circumstances in Lowestoft.

In January of this year, Lowestoft pantomime star Rick Gaynor, 48 proposed to his partner Sharon Hutchinson on stage at The Marina Theatre.

Playing the role of Muddles in Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, his character had spent about six weeks trying to get Snow White to marry him.

But as the curtains fell on the pantomime, the actor behind the comic clown proposed to his real-life girlfriend on stage - and was thrilled when she said yes.

In February of last year Lee Nevill who played Justin Case in the Beauty and the Beast performance by the Lowestoft Players at the Marina Theatre proposed to the pantomime co-director Lauren Major live on stage- to which she duly obliged.

A Kessingland couple were involved in a romantic proposal which caught the attention of the police, at the start of 2015.

Mervyn Kent proposed to Dawn James at the bus stop where they met in Beccles - but attracted the attention of the police, as he’d blindfolded her on the way to make it a surprise.

However when they went to investigate, they found it was not a daring kidnap which was unfolding before their eyes but long-distance lorry driver Mervyn Kent organising a surprise proposal for the love of his life.

Last week, Mr Ali proposed to his partner Rashida by flying a banner over Pakefield beach.
