A 26-year-old man has been jailed for six weeks for threatening behaviour and two counts of begging following an incident at Lowestoft Library last week.

Police were called to the library about 2pm last Thursday (December 12) following reports that a man was asking people for money and had become verbally abusive and threatening.

A police spokesman said: 'Officers identified the offender and he was arrested on Friday (December 13), taken into custody, interviewed and subsequently charged with two counts relating to the library incident – begging and threatening behaviour – and a further charge of begging in Station Square on the same day.'

Carl Horth, 26, of Denmark Road, was detained for court and appeared before Ipswich Magistrates Court on Saturday morning (December 14).

He was jailed for six weeks and given a restraining order not to go to Lowestoft's central library for a year.
