Team Wilkinsons reclaimed their Lowestoft Pancake Race crown by narrowly beating The Beach Radio in a competitive final.

In front of a healthy crowd who were enjoying the half-term sunshine, there were thrills and spills galore with a wide array of competitors displaying the colours of their businesses, schools and charities.

Three-time winners Iceland were knocked out in the semi-finals, which meant a new name was destined to win the trophy.

Henry Burton, 19, Jack Malcolm, 17 and Michael Thomas, 27, from Wilkinsons, seized the initiative and put their success down to 'natural talent' and 'chocolate McMuffins'.

Adjudicators were unable to separate The Beach Radio and Wilkinsons in a photo finish, so a re-run between the two teams was required.

Once again standards were high and a close finish seemed likely until a dropped pancake by The Beach Radio team conceded victory.

The other finalists were Heart Radio and a team from The Journal.

The mascot race also proved popular, with Woody the Bear winning the trophy and other competitors including Africa Alive's Reggie the Lion, The Beach Bunny and Access Ant.

Phil Aves, from Lowestoft Rising - an organisation working to improve the town - said: 'The annual pancake race brings the town together.

'Organisers Lowestoft Vision have encouraged many local businesses to participate, which resulted in the record number of teams.'
