A Lowestoft nursing home will be stepping back in time when it hosts a vintage fair.

Staff at Kirkley Manor in Kirkley Park Road will be donning outfits from the 1940s, 50s and 60s for a vintage fashion show on Bank Holiday Monday (May 30) from noon to 4pm.

Some of the period clothes, including old Army uniforms, are being lent by the Seagull Theatre in Pakefield.

There will also be vintage entertainment, stalls selling historic items, refreshments and a display of vintage vehicles – including scooters from the era of the Mods.

The Mayor of Lowestoft, Stephen Ardley, will be conducting a charity auction at 1pm with local businesses donating a variety of items.

Kirkley's activities coordinator Carole Cook said: 'People will have the chance to bid for everything from riding lessons and the use of a beach hut for a week to garden furniture, food hampers and meals out.

'Companies have been very generous so far but we would love to see more items donated as it is such a good cause.'

Proceeds from the event will be split between the residents' fund – it is hoped to buy a karaoke machine - and Lowestoft Riding for the Disabled run by Tessa Hardy at Pakefield Riding School.

'Tessa will be bringing one of her horses along to our event,' said Ms Cook.

She said the idea for the vintage theme came from Kirkley's residents, many of whom are living with dementia.

'Old uniforms might trigger a memory for them. They might remind them of their husband,' she added.

'Vintage fashion is also very popular with younger people so hopefully our event will be popular with the local community.'

She is still keen to hear from other owners of vintage cars and motorbikes to increase the size of the display. Contact Carole at the home on 01502-573054.
