Volunteers prepare to serve the lonely and needy a Christmas meal
Final preparations are under way to help feed those who would be alone or without a meal on Christmas.
For more than a decade The Salvation Army in Lowestoft has gathered volunteers who give up some of their time during the festive period to help those in need.
Last year about 100 people attended a dinner at the Citadel on Beach Road.
Adrian Allen, lieutenant at Lowestoft Citadel Salvation Army, said that since the article in The Journal (December 4) they have actually been inundated with calls from people who wanted to volunteer they had to halt the numbers.
“We have also had lots of donations from members of the public, both financial and in terms of food.”
The commanding officer, added: “Some people enjoy helping out on Christmas but people then chose to come and help out on our Tuesday drop-ins too. We hope it is not just a one off thing but the start of something regular.”
Volunteers will prepare vegetables today (December 24) and get the hall ready, and tomorrow (December 25) will help cook and serve the food, as well as providing entertainment and helping with the clear up.
Places are still available for the meal tomorrow, for more information call 01502 539118.
